Easy Halloween manicure with Maybelline Color Show Dotty

Today I have a quick and easy Halloween manicure.  I used Maybelline Color Show Dotty for this.  It’s an orange jelly with black and white glitter, perfect for Halloween.

This polish is SHEER, but packed with glitter. I used 5 thin coats here, and a layer of Gelous to smooth out the glitter, then topcoat.  The polish dried very quickly, so the 5 coats didn’t take too long.

Cover Girl The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Capitol Collection

Today I have a couple of new colors from Cover Girl’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Capitol Collection.  I was only able to get a hold of two of the polishes, but they definitely fit well with the Hunger Games theme.

Cover Girl Rouge Red and Inferno

The first color is Inferno.  This is a dark red base with copper and gold metallic flecks.  The flecks give this polish a chrome-like finish.  This is two coats.

Next is Rouge Red.  This is a lighter red base, with orange and red metallic flecks. Rouge Red needed 3 coats for full coverage.

Both polishes had a great consistency.  These are mini 3.5 mL bottles and I found them for $2.99.  Whether you’re a fan of the Hunger Games or not, this collection is worth it.

Sensationail Purple Orchid

I just recently joined the word of at-home gel manicures.  Polish never lasts more than a day or two on me, and although I like to change color often, I do not like chips.  I have been considering a gel starter kit for a while now, but didn’t like the 2 week commitment to the same color.  While browsing Meijer one day, I found the Sally Hansen Insta Gel Strips starter kit on clearance for $13.99, and decided it was time to take the plunge.  So far, I am loving gel polish, even though the mini-one-finger light is a pain to use for a full manicure.

One of the first gel polishes I bought is Sensationail’s Purple Orchid.

IMG_0007Purple Orchid is a deep purple with subtle purple and blue micro-glitter.  The polish applied easily, although it did not have as much shine as other gel polishes I’ve tried.

Overall,  I really enjoy this polish.  It is a perfect purple, and showed no signs of wear during the week that I wore it.   What are your favorite gel colors?
