Barkbox January 2014

We finally got our January Barkbox in the mail!

Barkbox Jan 2014

Spencer was perfectly excited with the box this month, I was a bit disappointed, however.  He loves the treats that were included, but both of the toys are things that he isn’t typically interested in.

Barksters Sweet Potato and Beef Krisps ($8.99)  Spencer LOVES these treats.  He typically prefers soft treats, but these are crunch without being hard.  I love that they are all-natural, and I would definitely buy these for Spence.

Think! Dog Louisiana Alligator Jerky  So despite these being called “alligator jerky,” I didn’t expect it to be actual alligator.  But it is.  Alligator treats for a dog.  Cause he wasn’t already spoiled enough.  Spencer absolutely loved these.  I hate them.  They smell awful, and the smell stays on your hands and on your dogs breath.  After giving him a couple of these in the afternoon, I could smell them on him when we went to bed that night.  I couldn’t find a price on these.

Barkworthies Chew  I do not have any information on what this is, and couldn’t figure it out from the Barkworthies site, according to the Barkbox card this was supposed to be a deer chew from Etta Says.  But either way, Spence grabbed this and ran.  And yes, that’s his impatient paw waiting for me to finish taking the picture.

Harry Barker Tug n’ Toss ($6)  This is just a rope with a ball on the end.  Spencer doesn’t play with rope toys a whole bunch, and he is completely uninterested in this toy, unfortunately.

Wigzi Pocket Bone ($7.99) This is a rubber bone that has pockets in each end for treats.  I have never bought a toy like this for Spencer, and I try to stay away from rubber toys in general because he chews them up.  But I gave this to him with an alligator treat in each end, and he did play with it until he got the treats out.  It has sat unused ever since.

Even though I couldn’t find a price for everything included in the box, I know the value exceeded what I paid.  There is one more box left in Spencer’s subscription, so I hope that one is better on the toy front.  I still think Barkbox is a great service though.

Barkbox December 2013

Barkbox Dec 2013

So today I have something a bit different, Barkbox!  I’ve always wanted to get this for my dog, Spencer, but never took the plunge for some reason.  When I saw a Groupon deal for a 3 month subscription, I figured this would make the perfect Christmas gift for a very spoiled dog.

Barkbox Dec 2013 5

Simply Fido Organic Toy–  This is a cute holiday reindeer, and I love that it’s organic.  I couldn’t find this exact one online, but based on what I saw, I’d guess the value on this is about $6-$8.

Barkbox Dec 2013 4

GoDog Blue Bully Yeti ($10.50)- This toy is hysterical, and it’s got a nice big squeaker.  According to GoDog, it’s got “Chew Guard Technology.”  One of Spencer’s favorite past times is killing squeakers, so we will see about that.  It does feel pretty sturdy for a plush, though, and the squeaker seems strong.

Barkbox Dec 2013 2

Planet Dog Eats in Chicken and Pumpkin Pot Pie ($9.95)- I love that these treats are all natural and have very simple ingredients.  I was worried Spencer wouldn’t like these, he is a treat snob and typically if I buy him fancy/organic/bakery style treats he will not touch them.  But he scoffed this up and came back begging for more.

Barkbox Dec 2013 3

Bistro Bites Treats in Peanut Butter and Applesauce ($7)- These are nice small treats that are great for training.  The ones I got are medium size, they also sell a small size treat, but the mediums were pretty small to begin with.   These are made in the USA, natural, and Spencer loved ’em.

Barkworthies Junior Bully Stick ($3.15)-  (Not pictured because Spencer snatched this out of the box like a maniac.) I have never bought bully sticks before, just because they sound gross to me.  But Spencer is clearly a fan, despite the fact that it smelled like a barnyard.    This is made with 100% beef bladder (yuck.) and supposed to be long lasting.  Spence destroyed it in about 5 minutes, and he is a very slow eater.

This first box was definitely a hit with Spencer and myself!   I think it is a great value, and a great way for Spencer to try things I wouldn’t have bought on my own.  Plus, I probably would have spent at least this month on toys and treats over the course of the month, anyway.
